Why does it matter, surely an A Board can't be that important!

To a trader their A-Boards may mean whether they can stay in business or are forced to close.  Pubs, cafes, shops selling ice creams, dry cleaners need these a-boards with their prices, goods and special offers.  An A-Board attracts customers, vital for small economies to thrive.  The loss of an A-Board can mean the loss up to 40% of customers, who can afford such losses and still stay in business?  Rents need to be paid, staff need to be paid, costs don't go down when the A-Board is removed, income does however because goods and services are overlooked by the passing potential customer. A retailer knows where their a-board needs to be for the most impact also bearing in mind the health and safety of their customers and do not need rules and regulations, permits and licences enforced upon them. A permit or licence could be refused, what then?

Town centres are struggling and need the FULL support of local councils, businesses need to be recognised by councils as being part of the productive aspect of towns.  Not a nuisance, but a source of local economic stability.

Councils need to take notice, by closing a small business through these rules and regulations just to "tidy" up a street, they may ultimately make streets look untidy.   Who wants to look at empty shops, and empty streets.  Less work for the council may-be when do they need to repair and clean empty streets devoid of shops, but hardly what the Audit Commission proposed.
