WHAT IS HAPPENING in the country with A-Boards?

Councils  up and down the country are enforcing new "a-board regulations".  ie not letting high street shops put movable a-boards on pavements.  Highway law is quoted liberally along with threats of prosecution and fines.

Suddenly councils are demanding that traders "get rid of your A-Board" with little explanation and little regard to the impact this will have on the trader.  Under HEALTH AND SAFETY no longer can businesses use their A-Board, more generous councils are permitting them but only if businesses pay fees to councils for licences or permits. The payment   suddenly makes them become "safe" and councils happily rake in this extra cash.  A new TAX on A-Boards seems to be the norm under the guise of Streetscene.

Some areas have even tried banning A-Boards altogether, it seems councillors don't like small businesses trying to drum up custom and spoiling the view of the empty street.  They even get quite nasty and officious, "what, you are trying to earn a living, disgraceful".  Threats are the order of the day, "if you don't get rid of the A-Board, we will get rid of it for you and charge you an  exorbitant fee,  WE HAVE THE POWERS YOU KNOW".  Well actually they don't but why let the law spoil their fun.

Up and down the country Streetscene is being spread like a disease, a money spinner and a wonderful way to dictate to shop keepers, just what jobsworth always wanted, "PUT THAT LIGHT OUT, GET RID OF YOUR A-BOARD, TIDY UP YOUR SHOP"

Streetscene was actually to ensure councils do their job and improve their services, some hope!
